Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Muscle Response Tester

What is Muscle Response Testing and Touch For Health?
They are two sides of the same coin that work together for optimal results.
What is Muscle Response Testing?
Muscle Response Testing (MRT) is a safe, non-invasive system of analyzing your body to determine the underlying cause of any imbalances in the body that may be reducing your body's ability to function optimally. There are two key parts to MRT: the identifying of the imbalance and the use of nutritional formulas to improve it.

Identifying the imbalance:
MRT analyzes different areas on the surface of the body, called dermatomes, that relate to the state of health in every organ, and the central nervous system's ability to regulate the functions of that organ. Each area that gives a response represents a specific organ that is not receiving adequate signals from the nervous system resulting in reduced or improper function of that organ system. By testing these dermatomes, I have a system of monitoring your body at each visit. This system is extremely accurate and allows me to identify exactly what the body needs, and how well we are meeting that need.

The process involves me having you lay down and extend your arm straight up perpendicular to the body. I begin by testing whether the arm can lock (or hold). After establishing that the muscle can lock, I press on the various dermatomes and retest the lock of the extended arm. If the organ being contacted is not functioning optimally, the nervous system will reduce the feedback to the extended arm, and the arm will unlock.

Personalized nutritional formulas:
If you have an organ system that unlocks the muscle, I test specific nutrients in the form of whole food supplements against those areas to find any that will best support the organ and relock the muscle. When the correct nutritional supplements are found, I fill out a personalized nutritional supplement program based on your body's individual needs and my MRT findings. By following the program as precisely as possible, you will be well on you way to restoring normal function and improving your health.
What is Touch For Health?
Touch for Health is a practical, hands-on approach that is designed to help people feel better, move better, and enjoy life more. It’s based on the idea that our body’s energy, like the flow of electricity, needs to be balanced to work at its best. By gently testing the strength of certain muscles, TFH helps identify where energy might be “stuck” or out of balance—kind of like finding a kink in a hose. Then, through simple techniques like light touch, acupressure, or tracing energy pathways (called meridians), it helps restore that flow, supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and feel good.

How Does It Work?
Imagine your body as a network of energy pathways, similar to those used in acupuncture. In TFH, a practitioner or you (after learning the basics) gently presses on a muscle—say, your arm—while you resist. If the muscle feels strong, it suggests the energy in that part of your body is flowing well. If it feels weak, it might indicate an energy blockage, stress, or imbalance.
Once a weak muscle is found, TFH uses techniques like:
-
Touching specific points on the body (like acupressure points) to stimulate energy flow.
-
Massaging reflex points to relax or energize muscles.
-
Tracing meridians (energy pathways) with your hands to encourage balance.

These methods are non-invasive, safe, and aim to help your body and mind work more harmoniously. For example, balancing energy might reduce stress, ease minor aches, or boost your energy levels.

Why Use It?
TFH isn’t about diagnosing or treating diseases like a doctor would. Instead, it’s a complementary tool to support your body’s natural healing, improve posture, reduce stress, or even help you achieve personal goals (like feeling more confident). It’s like giving your body a tune-up to perform at its best. Anyone can learn TFH with a bit of practice—no medical background needed—and it’s used by millions worldwide, from laypeople to health professionals like massage therapists or chiropractors.

Real-Life Example
Let’s say you’re feeling stressed and your shoulders are tight. In a TFH session, I might test a muscle linked to stress or shoulder tension (like the deltoid in your arm). If it’s weak, we could trace the related meridian or press a point on your body to “reset” the energy. Afterward, you might feel more relaxed, and we’d retest the muscle to see if it’s stronger, showing the energy is flowing better.
Important Note:
Nutritional Therapy and MRT are NOT a quick fix. Rather we are rebuilding the body from the inside out which takes time. You are addressing your health from a cellular level without bandaid fixes. There are no short cuts in identifying and correcting root causes and correcting imbalances. However, the rewards are amazing.
